Four award winning spirits you need to try!
The results of the annual 2021 Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition (CASC) are in and three of our brandies and one of our liqueurs have been recognized.
CASC highlights and celebrates the best artisan spirits from across Canada. CASC is held annually and is open to qualified artisan distilleries. The competition awards:
● Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals based on the judged merit of the spirit.
● Best in Class in each of our 19 categories.
● A single Canadian Artisan Spirit of the Year for the top-scoring spirit overall.
Spirits are judged blindly by a panel of judges from across the country.
Johnny Ziegler Brandy | 750ml 36% alc./vol.$30 2021 CASC Gold
The J.Z. Brandy was aged in oak for 5 years and judges noted that it had, "a light fruity quality complimented by vanilla, a touch of almond and hints of butterscotch" and that " the palate is very clean with great texture. Soft and warm on the finish."
Johnny Ziegler Original | 200ml 36 % alc./vol. $45 2021 CASC Gold
The J.Z. Original was aged in oak 20 years. Judges noted, "loads of ripe apples on the nose with floral blossoms. Ripe fruits and oak on the finish elevate this spirit.” Fruit flavour complimented with oak spice vanilla and almond. Some orange zest comes through as does hints of marmalade and marzipan."
Johnny Ziegler Obstler 750ml 36%alc./vol. $25.00 2021 CASC Silver
The J.Z. Obstler, a blend of apple, cherry and pear received great reviews from judges. They noted, “delicate orchard fruits on the palate and nose. What a synergy, so smooth and velvety on the palate. Simple upfront but brilliantly distilled. Tastes like this distillery knows a thing or two about distilling fruit into an approachable yet traditional spirit."
Cherry Liqueur 375ml 23%alc./vol. $20 2021 CASC Gold
"The Bright fruity nose is very lively. Explosion of tart cherry! Refreshing on the palate with sweetness level well gauged to carry the flavours and texture. Authentic, juicy fruit flavour to welcome the next sip."
